Some of you may wonder why an apparel, home furnishings and skincare shop would also sell popcorn. However, from my perspective it makes a lot of sense. Steve & Rita Ellen LLC was created to honor my parents and whenever I think of popcorn I also think of my dad, Steve. Steve was definately a foodie. Not in the sense that he wanted to try new and obscure types of cuisine, but that he wanted to find the perfect version of his favorite foods. One of his all time favorite snacks was popcorn.
One thing to know about my dad was that he was not extremely social. Even though he loved people, after a short while he wanted to get back home to be in his comfort zone with all his creature comforts and snacks. Whenever I invited him over I got the clue he was planning to stay awhile when he asked me for popcorn or agreed to eat the popcorn I often had on hand. He mostly loved savory flavors, such as butter and sharp cheddar cheese varieties. My dad usually asked for popcorn when he wanted to stay, relax and watch a movie with us all. This was so nice for all of us. I enjoyed making him feel comfortable even with such a silly small gesture.
I remember one of the last times my dad came to my home we all watched a favorite family movie of ours...."Mall Cop." I have a wonderful memory of my dad sitting on my couch with my son, eating his warm buttery popcorn with such pleasure and gusto, laughing out-loud to Kevin James' hilarious antics with his beautiful hearty laugh. I will have this picture forever in my mind. I love you dad now, then and forever.
